Direction Selective Gabor Filter, One-Branch
Summary

This is among the simplest possible direction selective (DS) models. It consists of a linear filter followed by half-wave rectification and then a Poisson spike generator. The linear filter is a Gabor function in which the sinusoidal grating is tilted in space-time. This model belongs to a class referred to as 1-branch (Emerson, 1997) because it has a single L-N pathway. It provides a basic point of comparison to the output of direction-biased and DS simple cells.

The visual stimulus is processed (convolved) by a single linear Gabor filter (left icon show x-t slice of 3D filter, right icon shows x-y slice) to yield a signal that can be scaled and half-wave rectified before being used to drive a Poisson spike generator.
